Celebrating Queen's 5th Diaversary

On this day 5 years ago, the almighty whispered in Dr. Bodo’s ears. “You will bring Queen back to her feet”…Today she is a grown royalty. Thank you to the medical team that saw us through the extreme darkness, my family and friends who checked in on us, but most importantly Queen’s granny. She was broken by the news that her grandchild was diagnosed with a terrible monster that she has to live with for the rest of her lifetime. I appreciate her motherly care, selflessness, loooove. She saw us through the hospital and has nurtured Queen to what she is today. Uncle Jamo, you checked in on us I think every day and Queen got her first artificial pancreas (glucometer) from you. Uncle Ken, you got us another glucometer as strips for what we had would run out sometimes from all pharmacies (a common thing faced in the diabetes world), Keary we received another from you, Gill for your constant check-ins and support, Kate the supplies you left us with was humbling, Matthew for being that friend! And all of you my support system…especially the music fraternity in my hood, thank you.

Dr. T, you prepped me well that gloomy day, I have no idea how it would have ended if we hadn’t talked that morning. Dr. Beatrice, thank you always, the butterflies I used to have because of your absence has settled as Dr. Venice is holding my hands steadily.

Sr. Sarah, I miss you terribly, and you are etched within me. I love you and I know you are at peace.

To Queen, nobody can stop you, diabetes cannot stop you from living your dream. Know your mamas are here for you and there are people out there who deeply care for you.

5 yrs ago, I remember that drama, the rush that evening, I remember the sleepless nights as we prayed and waited for the miracle, it was granted baby, it was granted! I remember your blank face. I remember when life returned, we collected flowers together and you decorated my hair.

We all lamented, why must it be you, why why why, it should have been on me, granny said it should have been her since she has lived most part of her life…but baby, this monster chose to live in you, and from you, we drew strength and thousands have benefited from our support.

All these events are as fresh as though it happened yesterday.

My heart breaks every day, it is made worse if I must give you the shot myself, to feel your skin break, yet you remain calm. You are a brave one baby. You give me strength. Thank you for being strong, thank you for being you, a champion, thank you for being a power girl! Remember mommy, Prince and Granny love you a lot.

This is a very special month for me and you! Let’s keep touching lives

Happy diaversary sweetheart, heartbeat!
