Meeting the Gorilla!

Image
For weeks on end, I waited for that day The excitement grew by the minute 5 days to the meeting, I started putting together my stuff I had to travel for three solid days to meet the Gorilla The day arrived and my fingers were so sticky from sweat, finally! We started early on day 3 as we had to locate the Gorilla Through the jungle, i trodded with the person Little did i know that a team had been sent ahead to make our meeting easier Oh My God! We all stood in our track! He stood so tall and big with streaks of grey on its back! He looked at me with intent and went back to eating and that meant, welcome, proceed! So I went ahead to meet the rest of the family! Like any family, the child who has just learned to walk always steals the show This last born was all over the place climbing the trees with different styles, making leaps, all the while glancing and smiling at me. Every other family member was resting (lying down or taking a nap). She entertained me until it was...

Life and love!

When she accepts to hold his hands, he shudders in joy His steps become light like a feather He starts to leap as they walk along the avenue He makes stops just to properly glance at her His heart jumps as she slides her hands to grab his waist. This sends warmth to his entire body When she speaks, it's a song to his ears He will call her 30 times a day just to hear her voice He is restless the entire day until he shares his plans and achievements with her She is the first to know all that happens around and in his life He will not leave for anywhere far without her He cannot stay a beat without her warm presence If he must, none will feel the distance She is everything he ever asked for The one that pointed him to where he should have seen long ago The perfect being that restored love in him A feeling he assumed had left him for good Everything about her is perfect Until love starts to fade and she becomes the ugliest, most irritable thing that has ever crossed hi...

Cut off her hair

Image
For some reason a child having hair, especially a full head of hair is a problem around here. A lady commented on a girl's hair today. "Cut off her hair, it's too long for her". Many mothers have been nagged to a point of cutting off their children's beautiful hair. I recall Queen's hair being long enough to hold it into a bun at 6mos old and these "wise" females who would always visit and complain on the length. I ignored many, explained to some and had to get my Africanness at play. My response these days is permanent on "give birth to a girl and chop off her hair" Hair is so beautiful especially when maintained! Let's look at dressing, in my tradition, we are to dress up in long clothes, pants on women is kind of a problem. There is one particular woman who nagged me as a child and transferred it to Queen in recent times. She would always scold, and try to shame me for wearing short clothes at 6 yrs old. I remember vividly,...

sorry!?...

We hear about a lot, read more than we should at a time, expect so much You and I are different Our levels of remorsefulness will never be equal We all love and hurt others Imagine a stranger  accidentally stepping on my feet in public, my immediate response would be to quickly raise my hands and ensure it lands on that spot that will be remembered. (How callous of me, so you say) Imagine you stepped on my feet and quickly mumbled "I am sorry". Even in pain, you would draw a smile from me and sometimes a heartwarming response that would leave you wondering what good you just did. See, this life is strange and one must learn how to survive in it Can a self centered person ever look beyond them? Can they for once realise that all they need to do is swallow their pride and say sorry. Many believe they don't faulter and any reaction to their selfish acts is punishing them for no bad they have done. Allow me to widely imagine they believe people around them have no ...
