A letter to my Human Resources

When I spent all night drafting an appealing application
Spent another day in an internet café trying to send
I did it for me
I did it for the money
I did it for my family

I knew you not
I wasn’t applying for you
I just wanted to do my job
A job I loved

Get paid
Live a life
Leave if the time comes

Human resources
Keep your hands off me
Keep your hatred off me
Did you come to frustrate people?
If the time has come for you
Leave
Are you the devil?
Do you want to drag us all down?
Is that why you signed up for this position
You wake up one morning
Cook a story and boom
I am being served a letter
Really?

Did you know that when you signed up for this job
You needed to be one that accommodates
One that nurtures
One that mothers and fathers
One that keeps secrets
One that takes in everyone’s burden
One that makes work worthwhile
One that balances the boat

But nooooo
You are everyone’s nightmare
Is that why you are here
To drain the institution of very competent people
To torment us!

Do you think we don’t see that you are fixing your own in this space?
Don’t you see the quality of work dropping?
What do you gain by blowing off my candle?
We call for professionals to handle the human resources position
Stop doing an injustice to amazing human resources people
Do not taint the name of the unit
The unit is so pivotal and we have seen the best serve that position
What are you doing?

An institution that allows in-house relations
Don’t jump in
You are neutral
The virus of love picks on everyone randomly
As a male human resources person
I must walk in your office in and out as required
Without being followed by the virus you picked from amongst us
Glared at, threatened

As a woman human resources person
This virus doesn’t bypass you
Your judgment is blurred
Kicking us out because your virus doesn’t like us
Making out in office
Oh oh oh! Watch your steps

Stay away from the virus
Keep a clear mind
Make your space habitable
We shall love you
We shall hang in there through thick and thin
Even when the institution is being rocked by the heavy waves
We shall raise the sail together
We shall watch your back
We shall balance the boat
