I am NOT JUST a refugee, I am human, I am enough

I am Enough I am Human I Deserve Better

When the wars raged in my country

I was left with no choice but to run

Run I did and ended up in my neighbouring country

I am Enough I am Human I Deserve Better

My lineage cannot just end like that

So much blood has soiled the ground

My people’s blood

I have no power to stop it

I am broken and in despair

All I could do was run

Shame you might call it

My lineage cannot just end like that

So much blood has soiled the ground

My people’s blood

Received I was in this neighbouring country

I cannot complain much

Even with the little food and hardly a shelter over my head

Improvise I have to do

Yet the community that hosts me is cruel

I am Enough I am Human I Deserve Better

I am Enough I am Human I Deserve Better

I cannot fetch firewood, for that does not belong to me, but them

I cannot fetch water from ’their’ well, for that water is not meant for me

When I head out to the bush

To fetch firewood

And to the well

To fetch water

I am abused

I am torn

It does not matter whether I am with child

My decency is no more

I am a public property

I am Enough I am Human I Deserve Better

Report this, i do

No one is there to listen to me

I am dubbed insane and desperate

I am Enough I am Human I Deserve Better

My movement is restricted from country to country

I need a movement pass

When I left my country

Little did I know

My freedom, my dignity would remain behind

I am not a free person

That is thrown in my face,

You are not a free person

I am Enough I am Human I Deserve Better

I am Enough I am Human I Deserve Better

Humanity is cruel

My country was rich,

Food, water, clothes, medicine, firewood was in abundance

I was free

I moved to any place in the world at will

I know what freedom feels like

I know what freedom looks like

Yet here I am; a nobody; my name matters no more

My opinion stays back inside me,

For I am voiceless

I am Enough I am Human I Deserve Better

Does being a refugee mean I lose my values

Does being a refugee come with a price I cannot pay

I did not ask to be a refugee

Treat me like you would desire to be treated

If ever you found yourself in my shoes

Being a refugee is not a choice

I am Enough I am Human I Deserve Better

I am Enough I am Human I Deserve Better
