Drawing blood using my partner's position
Eddie (not real name): Dacta (Doctor) i got your call, and i had to create time and come.
Dacta: What is going on between you and the mother of your child?
Eddie: I have not had any problem with this woman. One day she told me she was going to leave.I asked her why and she didn't really have a clear explanation. I asked her to stay and if there are things that need to change or be improved in the relationship, we could talk about it. She never brought it up again until one day when she followed me at my workplace and told me she was leaving my house. I didn't respond to her this time. I came back home and she had swept the house clean including my clothes and had taken our baby as well. I started sending money for child support without her asking, i have proof as i wire all transactions electronically...
She took our child to her mother in Kampala, i received word that the child was being ill-treated, i travelled there and my heart was broken at the sight of my child. I picked her up and took her for treatment before bringing her back with me. Once she learnt that the child was doing well, she came and took her away. I didn't fight back. I continued sending child support.
Dacta: Why didn't you follow her when she first left? (In this culture, once a woman leaves a man's home, the man follows her at her parent's home and bargains with her parents to have back)
Eddie: How could i follow someone who never went back home, but just moved from my house to another man's house (a police CID-Dan, not real name)
Dacta: But you should support the mother of your child, she is complaining that you are not sending support and that is how the issue reached me.
Eddie: Dacta, i have never stopped giving support. She was quiet these past 3 years, so why has she started making a fuss now?
Dacta: Maybe she wants to come back to you
Eddie: Maybe, she asked me and tried to come back, but i do not want anything to do with her. She left for the police CID, she thought that was heaven, let her enjoy heaven. Can you believe she arrested me together with her CID man the other day? We wrote our statements; she got so pissed out of the blue and slapped me. Can you believe she slapped me in front of the police? I slapped her back and I was immediately bundled up and taken into the cell.
Dacta: You mean she slapped you in front of the police and all the police did was to apprehend you and leave her when she started the fight?
Eddie: Yes, actually i have received a summon to report to the police station again, but i won't because i know they want to arrest me. Dan uses his position as a CID to get what he wants. I remember when i complained they changed his duty station, but he has connection. I am happy to report to police, but only if the DPC is alerted on what is going on. I know the other officials can easily be bribed and they will support their colleague.
Honestly, i think this woman just wants me to suffer. She is working as a nurse in one of the schools and her new man gets a salary. I am offering child support, but she is after me with a thirst for blood. I didn't chase her from my home, she left and i closed the door after her. I have moved on...
Dacta: I will pass word to the right officers and you will be summoned

Interesting read depicting the many things not talked about in our society. I believe dialogue is our magic box to solve all social distress.
